Japanese Festival in Arizona

By Ian Kleine

Did you know? Arizona has been holding the Japanese Matsuri for almost 25 years now!

Matsuri is 'festival' in Japanese, so it would be semantically wrong to dub the festival as 'the Matsuri festival.' The Matsuri of Arizona is a very extensive festival to celebrate the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun in American Soil. And what a very extensive festival it is.

They have tons, and I mean, TONS of events. They have the famous Kyo Rei Taiko Kai, or the beating of the Japanese drums. The ondo, or the japanese folk dance in the streets. There is also the modern "J-Rock" fest, more drummers and even hands-on demos for the interested individual. Very exotic and very nice to look at. It's an explosion of music and dancing for the whole day.

There's also the Budokai, japanese for martial arts tournament. It is a highly interesting competition open for all forms of martial arts. There are displays of katana drawing (shinkendo), spear play (naginata jutsu), and fencing (kendo). In time, by the next few years, they could include other forms of weaponry like the Japanese bow, or those cool ninja stars and sickle-chains. I have always wondered about those ever since I was a kid.

For the kids, there is the cosplay (kosupure) or costume play, organized by the local comics organization. While the older folks can have a hand with the weapons and drums, the kids can do well with their favorite anime characters coming to life (made by fans, for fans).

The event lasts for two days, but each hour is packed with enough events to make you go Japanese. It's highly organized, and the publicity is good. Tourists in Arizona are advised to join in the festivities, if not for the sights and then at least for the sounds. I'm sure everyone will love it.

Apples

By Paul Canova

Alpine strawberries are propagated by seed sowing, either in the spring or the autumn. The author likes to sow the seed in boxes containing the John Innes seed compost, and when the plants are through they are pricked out into further boxes 2 inches square, till they are planted out in the open on the 1-foot-apart basis.

The newer root stocks have been produced as the result of the work of the East Mailing Research Station and the John Innes Horticultural Institution working in collaboration. They are known as the Malling-Merton series, because 'John Innes' was originally located at Merton.

The East Mailing Research Station has, however, worked for a very large number of years on these stocks and it is possible, as a result, to foretell very largely the effect that the particular stock will have on the variety grafted or budded on to it.

The expert can, therefore, gauge the size to which the tree will grow, the age at which it will crop and, in fact, it is only by propagating a tree on to a classified stock that we can ensure uniformity of growth and production in any particular orchard.

Generally speaking, therefore, it is better to leave the raising of trees to the expert nurseryman, who can reproduce his stocks correctly by stooling or layering or other modern methods. But it is necessary to know the effect that the various classified stocks have on trees, so as to be able to place one's order with the nurseryman correctly.

There are a number of hybrid berries which can be propagated in a similar manner to blackberries. They includes boysenberry, nectarberry, dewberry, phenomenal berry, king's acre berry veitchberry, lowberry, youngberry, worcesterberry, which is a hybrid between a gooseberry and a blackcurrant, is propagated as if it were a gooseberry.

Mulching Fruit Trees

By Don Bixell

When we think of home, we think of comfort, warmth, familiarity, safety, friendliness and similar satisfying attributes. Whether our home is a mansion or a cottage, a bed sitting room or an apartment, we think of it as a unit and not as a conglomerate made up of doors and walls and windows, carpets and furnishings.

It is also possible to provide special conditions for special plants, by creating a micro climate for a single plant or even group of plants, and not affecting the total atmosphere of our home.

The light in our homes is already exist for us and it is unnecessary to go to the extremes of increasing it. But what we can do is to take the greatest advantages of the different kinds of light that already exist.

Our windows normally face one particular point of the compass, so we can say that south facing windows admit the greatest quantity of light. Windows on the west provide slightly less light in quantity, but the intensity of this light is usually good. East windows allow good light in the mornings but less for the remainder of the day. And finally north facing windows give less light than any of the others but have the advantage of giving this light more or less steadily throughout the day.

Light is normally more important than temperature to most house plants. So long as extremes of heat or cold are not experienced nearly by all the normal range of plants which we grow in our homes, the plants will be perfectly happily in the normal range of temperatures just as we enjoy ourselves.

The average home seldom varies in temperature more than about 10 degrees Fahrenheit with some rooms being cooler, and some warmer, but none going below freezing point even on the coldest of winter days. The range is usually between 55 ˚F. and 65 ˚F, (13 ˚C-19 ˚C) with a five degree allowance on each side for the extremes. All of the normal house plants will exist perfectly happily in these temperatures so long as those that need extra light get good light and extra humidity.

Top 15 Tips on Golf Swing

By Mick Euan Tait

You can find golf swing tips online or you can buy one of the many golf swing lessons e-books. Many of these tips on golf swing techniques go into a lot of detail; at times, too much detail. If you have a swing fault, what you need are a few basic golf swing tips - whether it is to learn more about the short game in golf or to fix a slice.

5 Tips on How to Drive Long

To be able to shoot lower scores, one of the best ways is to gain more golf distance off the tee. With a shorter distance to the green you will have more chance to score par or better. Naturally, you need accuracy as well as distance or you will be in a worse position to reach the green. The following 5 quick and easy tips will help you drive long off the tee:

(1) Tee the ball up higher and position it off your leading foot's instep so that you hit the ball on the upswing; (2) Don't hit the ball with all your power - use a steady rhythm and work on increasing your swing speed; (3) Use the right shaft flex for your swing speed - use a flexible shaft if you have a lower swing speed; (4) Cock your wrists early on the backswing and un-cock them as late as possible on the downswing; (5) Turn your shoulders a full 90 degrees for maximum distance.

5 Tips on How to Master Golf Irons

Mastering the golf irons is an often overlooked topic. You will find many resources available to help you improve your driving or putting but not much importance is placed on golf iron play. Learning to dominate your golf irons is easy with these 5 tips:

(1) To know your average distance with each golf iron in your bag, practice on the driving range; (2) Bu using the right iron for the distance you want to hit it, you will be able to use a full swing which is easier to control; (3) Make sure you take into account the wind distance and strength as well as other factors like the slope you are playing from and the height to the green; (4) Playing out off the rough is different from playing off the fairway - you will need to adjust your ball position, stance, iron loft, and your attack angle; (5) Learn how to use course management to your advantage - sometimes going for the pin is not the best option.

5 Tips on How to Improve Your Golf Short Game

The golf short game is one of the most important areas of the golf game. Being able to hit long and accurate drives is all well and good, but if you can't chip the ball on the green, all that effort will be wasted. The short game of golf is where you really need to practice, so check out the following 5 tips:

(1) From under 50 yards, use a bump and run and get the ball rolling as soon as possible; (2) Use a slightly open stance and place your feet closer together; (3) Choose one club (7, 8, or 9 iron) and practice your chipping from different distances with it; (4) The length of your backswing will determine the distance the ball will travel; (5) When playing over a hazard, use a more lofted club with a pitching swing.

These tips on golf swing technique cover three areas of the game that are important but there are other areas that you have to learn to dominate. They are bunker or sand trap play, putting, pitching, and learning how to cure a slice or hook (if you have these swing faults.) Golf is an all round game - meaning that you have to be proficient in every aspect of the game. Don't just concentrate on how to be a long driver; instead practice with every club in your golf bag.

Carp Fishing Bait Secrets Of Using Robin Red!

By Tim Richardson

Robin Red is a carp bait additive that has had an incredible effect on carp catches for decades, but its recipe and how it works is surrounded by controversy and relatively few carp anglers use it to its full potential. Discover some clues about it and its very effective use here...

Robin Red is an original formula from Haiths based in Cleethorpes UK. Included in their best-selling items are these well-known bait ingredients: Hempseed, Carpticle Mix, Multi Mix, Super Red, Prosecto Insectivorous, Robin Red, Red Factor, Nectarblend, soft Bill and Red Band. Having many years in producing leading specialist bird foods, this experience and such products and many others have been extremely productively applied to catching carp!

Among such bird food products Robin Red is the best known and is literally a legend when it comes to carp bait ingredients and additives etc today. Hinders offer other bird foods which have also been integral in the success and universal use of bird food based carp baits throughout the world today. Countless modern carp bait companies have taken hinders and Rod Hutchinsons leads for example and formulated their own commercial bird food based baits ranges and now additives and liquids etc based around robin red and chilli for instance are extremely fashionable and successfully proven; such as the Ccmoore Red Venom additive.

The popularity of Robin Red is so great that Im sure that at times in the case of making your own homemade boilies, that if you do not use Robin Red in your bait, it will likely as not be the only carp bait in the water that does not include it! Not using Robin Red can actually be a good thing as carp are so familiar with it on busy very hard-fished carp waters that it could well act as an indicator of potential danger! You might find out a bit more about it and choose to use a component of it instead, or use it in very low levels, this works well winter summer or fall...

You can apply Robin Red to any boilie, pellet, ground bait, fake or live bait etc as it will penetrate and even dye red most things. Dampening it with Ccmoore red Venom will make Robin Red seriously ideal for neat PVA product use or when using method mixes, sod and stick mixes etc with Robin Red in... Liquid Red Venom is a great partner for the very granular Robin Red and both are outstanding for all year round uses and applications (and especially winter-time...)

So exactly what is Robin Red; after all it certainly colours up the water attractively and even stains your hands a distinctive red?! The recipe of Robin Red is shrouded in mystery, controversy and endless speculation, and perhaps all you can say for certain, is that is does not contain Carophyll Red, (but this does not exclude it containing cantaxanthin perhaps...) Robin Red certainly does contain many bioactive components and substances, including antioxidant pigments (plumage colour enhancing agents highly stimulatory to carp!)

Homemade boilies benefit even form just an ounce per pound of dry base mix of Robin Red, and even the cheapest soya and semolina mixes are boosted significantly by the highly nutritional stimulation of Robin Red. To boost your pellets, wet them with any liquid even water, and add Robin Red; the red clouding of the water around your bait will certainly improve results when fishing for sight-feeding carp too. Haiths have a mix call Super Red incorporating Robin Red, (which can even be applied in PVA products in neat dry form,) and it contains the following great ingredients:

Super Red has aniseed oil, teasel seeds, crushed Carpticle mix, crushed hempseed, Red Factor, robin Red, peanut granules and crushed tiger nuts. This combination is only one of countless others you could try in making your own boilies, pellets and ground baits and to maximise this and more and to save yourself an fortune in bait costs why not now read on...

Tips on Managing your Fruit Tree Garden

By Aussie Good

The suburban fruit grower undoubtedly has many more difficulties to face than a man who lives in isolation in the country.

Jack Matthews, for instance, the fruit tree expert of Thurston, Suffolk, states : 'With pears the key to all cross-pollination is Laxton's Superb!

He will make certain that the drainage is perfect, for roots cannot live in waterlogged soil. They need air, solved in the private garden as it is on the fruit farm, but even here it is possible, that excess moisture from the subsoil can be carried away to a properly constructed sump made in one corner of the garden. Those who are going to invest capital in the soil must do it carefully, and the employment of an expert does ensure that money is not thrown away carelessly.

He likes to keep his eyes on the trees and bushes as individuals and is determined to help them as far as possible in Nature's way. He is not anxious to disturb the roots.

He is determined to use insecticides and fungicides as little as possible, so as not to upset the balance of nature, and kill predators. He knows, however, that he lives in a world where other people may be `over spraying' and so he may have to combat 'the spill-over' from other fruit farms or gardens in his district.

Unfortunately, no man can live to himself. It is possible to manage one's fruit trees and bushes almost perfectly, and then to have to face the fact that the neighbor next door uses chemical fertilizers unnecessarily-either sprays at the wrong time or doesn't spray at all-and so, week in and week out, in the spring and summer, insect pests and the spores of fungi may be coming over in droves, and so make the perfect culture in an organic garden very difficult indeed.

Custom Boat Seats Without Nasty Surprises

By Frank Gehry

You may be planning to put new seats in an old boat, or maybe you want to modify existing seating. In both cases, it will make sense to address yourself to a custom boat seat manufacturer. Follow this guide to learn how to do it.

There are many different types of boat seats available, and the potential for customization is almost endless. The most important deliberation in making these kinds of choices are is the type of boat that you have, the space where you need to fit the seating, and what you will be using it for.

The first step to getting purpose-made boat seats is to write down a detailed list for the necessary specifications. Once you have done that, present the list to more than one manufacturer, several if possible.

The way that they reply to your spec list will show you whether they are expert and reputable, and approaching more than one builder will also allow you to compare prices and decide which manufacturer will give you the best value for your money.

Not only should you make sure that the boat seat manufacturer has understood the exact size requirements of your order, but if at all possible he should also commit in writing to modifying the seats if the sizing turns out to be wrong.

As the boat seats will be custom designed and manufactured to your specifications, it will really be up to you as the boat owner to decide on the kind of fabric, of color and trimmings, and of the style that you will want for the boat.

Don't forget any boat seat extras, such as places to affix navigation equipment or fishing rods on the boat. Storage space is also an important and often overlooked component of boat seating.

Boat seat padding can be of many different types, light, medium or heavy, removable as in cushions, or fixed. Be sure to specify all this, especially if you are taking a lot of passengers on your boat.

Make sure that the chosen materials match the boat and the boat seat's function. For a vintage boat, you want corresponding material. If the seats will be outside and will take a lto fo humidity, they need to be water- and salt-proof.

Likewise, for modern steel- or fiberglass-based seats, you need to ensure that any steel bolts or staples used in the construction are stainless steel to prevent rust and unsightly rusting streaks, and also that no hard parts are left unpadded, which would make for very Uncomfortable Seats.

Apples of Georgia

By Ian Kleine

Most of the people in Georgia would claim that their apples are the best. And the claim is well proven.

If you're driving through Georgia from late August up till December, your nose would immediately pick up the scent of apples, whether baby apples, just ripening, or those bursting with flavor, juice and meat.

The roadsides are abound with booths, every booth being managed directly by the grower. It's quite cheaper to buy directly from the growers, so if you get the urge to buy some apples; buy it plenty and buy it directly.

Georgia is the town to splurge when it comes to apples, especially during the later half of the year. The apples are freshly-picked and are bursting. Mind that you use a napkin when eating or you'd leave a mess in your hands. Nothing beats the taste of fresh apples, especially not grocery or store-brought ones.

A recent taste test also revealed that more consumers actually prefer the juicy apples of Georgia, compared to Washington State apples. I really don't see the difference, but heck, why bother? The test was done, the apples are more preferred, so I guess they should taste better right?

With Georgia, you get assaulted by different aromas, different scents. Apples picked at this time of the year vary accordingly, whether at the time of picking, the fruit's current age, and the type of tree. The variety matters. There's Red and Golden Delicious, Gala, Winesap, Mutsu and Granny Smith. I really like the Fuji variety, it's the ultimate in crispiness and in sweetness. Good for cooking or for eating.

Apples are also high in dietary fiber, and in natural sugars. They have no fat, and no cholesterol. Apples store well and can be used for preserves, baked goodies and stews. It goes without saying they make good snacks too!

Successful People Know The Cosmic Ordering Secrets

By Janette Stretens

Cosmic ordering has become more and more in prominence lately and the idea has been endorsed by many celebrities. Just place your order with the universe and after a short wait, it will be yours!

Check out all the people in the world who are getting what they really want. You already know, though that it doesn't work for everyone. What are celebrities and other successful people doing that the rest of us not? Does the cosmic ordering service really exist?

Think about the last time that someone you know got a promotion or won a great prize. Whether you know it or not, you were placing an order. Disdain and envy at anothe's success tells the universe that you are someone who welcomes poverty and misery, and that these negative emotions are in fact your status quo.

Would you get upset if you sat down to order a meal and noticed someone had a delicious looking dinner in front of them? No, you'd order the same thing they had. You'd be excited and hoped they loved their dinner because you knew yours would be the same.

Think about it in that regard. Find joy in other people's success and take delight in their pleasure. Remember that when you get the same that it will be just as sweet. Don't be angry, disappointed or bitter, or believe that there is not enough to go around. That means that you are placing an order for failure.

Lots of world religious out there tell us that the power of prayer can get us anything we want, although we need to think about how belief fits into that. More and more scientists are finding that quantum physics is a lot like a belief system and all the evidence is pointing to religious dogma as being true.

What makes this possible is the application of the mind's energy. Don't think about this as something that takes away from religious doctrine, but in fact reinforces it.

There are too many things that can make you fail if you are just looking at positive affirmations. If you have had problems in the past, this can be reinforced and it can take away a lot of the good that you have created. Some affirmations do stick, but it takes time if the old beliefs are still around.

So what are the cosmic ordering secrets? You need to do a thorough housecleaning of your brain before you start any program to attain your life's desires. You need to start with a clean slate and realize it's okay to accept all the great wealth the Universe has to offer.

There are many different methods that can let you start off fresh. Just like a vacuum cleaner is a better tool for removing dirt on a carpet than a small tooth brush, look around for the tools that will really suit you and that will let you get the life you want.

Self-hypnosis, subliminal affirmations and binaural frequency waves help to do just that. They allow you to find and eliminate all the old negative thinking that you have in your subconscious mind. All that the cosmic ordering secrets really are is understanding that your own subconscious mind wants to sabotage your efforts to get whatever you desire.

Your mind hates change. It fights to keep you in a steady state so unless you believe that you already have what you want, just by using your cosmic ordering system; it fights you tooth and nail. These additional tools help to believe you already are there and relieves you of the fight to improve. It even makes it uncomfortable not to achieve and receive everything you want, because you already believe it exists.

The truth is that you can get whatever you want from the cosmic ordering system. Select your order carefully and then shepherd that belief into reality!

Barry Bonds

By Denise I Smithson

While Barry Bonds is known as an incredible baseball player, it is other things about him which may eventually be what he is remembered for. Bonds won four MVP awards as an outfielder, four years in a row. He played in the 2007 World Series and is one of the most widely known players in the sport. In 2006, he surpassed even Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron in home runs.

However, this was not accomplished under ideal circumstances, there were already stories of steroid use, and Bonds was not loved dearly by a majority of fans. This feeling was apparently very mutual and Bonds has never been one to bite back hostile words. Even Hank Aaron became disillusioned and disenchanted, and at the end of the history making record chase, refused to attend any more of Bonds' games. He has a standing record of 762 homeruns giving him sole possession of first place. Bonds also holds records for most homeruns in a single season-73. There are numerous records and accolades that belong to Bonds, but no ball team would sign him during the 2008 season.

With an accomplished career and his financial security already assured, Bonds became a target of investigation in connection to the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative case and was charged with perjury for having lied about his steroid use.

This has cast a pall over his entire career. Fans questioned the validity of his MVP awards and his achievements within the game - and the league itself has also expressed concern. Achievements which came through the use of steroids, the reasoning goes, are not to be valued as highly as those accomplished solely through an athlete's natural faculties.

A pall has been thrown over a career in baseball which began in high school, when Bonds was courted by the Giants while still a senior. He did not end up signing on with the Giants, choosing to pursue a college education. Bonds played in college as well, where in a single year he scored seven hits in a row in the College World Series and was picked as All American selection of the year by the publication Sporting News.

In March 2009, Bonds will appear in court to face the obstruction of justice charges related to the BALCO investigation. Bonds still insists that he never took steroids knowingly - but this is a matter which has yet to be resolved in court and is sure to be closely followed by baseball fans.

Bonds has been spending his time away from the diamond by working with children's hospitals, a public service which has comforted many sick and even terminally ill children. Bonds holds an honorary chairmanship from the Macy's Tree Lighting committee - this committee raises money for UCSF Children's Hospital Palliative Care Program, a children's hospice.

Generating Profit from Crafting

By Ian Kleine

Ever wondered what makes a person successful in his work? It's not about having a good market, or having a good locale, or having a good amount of audience (although that would help quite a lot).

It is about having a good relationship with your work. Yes, your relationship with your business. After all, how would one succeed with something you would disagree with? To make good with business, you must like your business; and I'd daresay, you must enjoy and make your business a part of your life.

If you have a hobby on crafting, then why not venture out in to the business world armed with your whatchamacallits and crockery?

In these days, it is not strange for small business enterprises to venture the outdoors and come back big or even bigger than before. It is in the matter of the entrepreneur's initiative, motivation and drive to overturn competition and use it as an inclination to push one's business up the ladder of today's market.

If you want to make money out of your hobby, it is wise that you INVEST first in your craft. With technique and equipment comes efficiency and reliability, and with efficiency and reliability comes a strong market base and profit.

The rule of business is to make a coin higher than what you had spent. Using your hobby as a foundation of your business is a most-agreed upon idea before, and even now. But of course, one has to consider the market and the environment too. It is possible that you only have one craft or hobby. Think about what your community wants, and from there, exploit that line of thought.

If your place is a naturally cold place, wouldn't scarves be a profitable venture? Hot as the desert sun? A refreshment stand is sure to be a hit.

Festivals are good places to let your community know, that another entrepreneur has entered the market.

Growing Red Currants

By Melvin Hoffman

Strawberries are propagated by means of the little plants which develop on the stolons sent out with great vigor by one-year-old plants. These are generally called runners. Because strawberries are subject to a number of virus troubles, it is tremendously important only to save runners from truly healthy soil and so the compost fruit grower has a far greater chance of keeping his 'stock' of strawberries healthy than the man who relies on chemical fertilizers.

Despite, however, constant correct manuring for nine or ten years the author has not been able, so far, to ensure immunity from yellow edge, crinkle, the yellows and other similar virus diseases. It is therefore important to prevent the spread of aphides which are undoubtedly the vectors (that is to say transmitters) of the various viruses.

The two main periods of aphis attack seem to be June and September and it is then that one can effectively spray with nicotine. Nicotine, coming as it does from the tobacco plant and being so volatile, will kill and then evaporate without leaving any taint behind. It must, however, be applied on a warm day (temperature 65 F. at least) to be effective. It gives a better kill of the strawberry aphis than liquid derris, but the wash must reach all parts of the plant, under and over.'

Furthermore, he will whip out any plants that appear to be diseased, the moment the trouble is seen. Such plants will be burnt or, better still, put on to the compost heap, provided they are covered immediately with an activator like a fish fertilizer so that they can be properly rotted down and the heat thus engendered in the heap will kill the disease. Make up a compost consisting of 1 part sedge peat, 1 part silver sand and I part soil. See that the compost is somewhat damp and then crock and fill 3-inch pots.

It will be noted that as the cutting is put in 6-7 inches deep, the part above ground will be at least 5 inches, and preferably 8 inches. The top four buds which form the new branches will take up a space of about 2 inches, and this leaves the bush on a leg or stern of from 3 to 6 inches in length.

Furthermore, they can, if desired, be potted on into 6-inch pots in October of early November, and they can then be 'forced' by being placed on the staging of the greenhouse or, better still, on shelving near the light.

Fruit Tree Sterility

By Quaker Goodman

It was possible to divide the great majority of plum varieties into three main groups: (1) varieties which fail entirely with their own pollen, (2) those which partly fail with their own pollen, and (3) the varieties which are self-fertile. The chart found below gives these varieties in their three columns. Unfortunately very few dessert varieties are self-fertile, as a glance at the columns will show.

Those that develop a full crop with their own pollen are often cookers, though there arc exceptions like Laxton's Gage, Victoria, Early Transport Gage, and Oullin's Golden Gage. In the case of apples there are varieties which can be regarded as self-sterile, and others which are self-fertile. Taking it by and large, however, better crops result when cross pollination can take place.

Variety A may need a mate and so variety B will have to be planted near by so that the pollen from the male anthers of B can fertilize the ovary of variety A. It is only the compatible pollen (as will be seen in the drawing) which will germinate and reach the ovary of the flower. It has been estimated by experts that the fruit production in Great Britain could easily be raised by 20 per cent today, not by further plantings, but by correct interplanting, or merely by the grafting of some of the trees in poorly bearing orchards with scions of the varieties which would provide the right pollen.

Thus though Ellison's Orange might be used as a pollinator for Bramley Seedling-the Bramley Seedling would not be able to help the Ellison's Orange in any way-and this means, in fact, that a pollinator like, say, Laxton's Superb is needed for Ellison's. exceptions perhaps being Fertility, Durondeau, Beurre Bedford and Laxton's Superb. The tripl.oid varieties shown in the list must be interplanted with diploid kinds for, as in the case of apples, triploids produce unsatisfactory pollen. The two diploid varieties which are useless as pollinators are Marguerite Marillat and Bristol Cross.

That is to say trees that are to be taken out in twelve years' time or so, when they have given of their room for the main trees.

Should this happen, then of course all the trees left behind at the end of the twelve-year period are self-sterile, and the orchard as a result hardly bears any fruit at all. Whatever pollination plan is worked out, it should be one that is truly permanent.

The Web Provides Unlimited Movies

By Leira Homes

The technology that lets a movie be purchased online and downloaded onto your computer is just starting to become popular in the Internet marketplace. Some of these new service providers will distribute the movie in a streaming format. Others will allow you to download the movie.

Most believe the biggest benefit to downloading online is not having to drive to get a movie. Not having to wait for it in the mail is a plus too.

It must be downloaded and installed on your computer. It could also require that you have Real Player installed on your machine. To use these services, you'll also need a high-speed Internet connection.

One big change is driving to the local video store. Digital sharing features such as streaming to IP-enabled TV or loading content onto MP3 players still lags in comparison to burning DVDs. Consumers can remotely purchase and download full-length movies to any enabled connected device.

Today, more and more people understand that having a video subscription at a traditional video store simply does not cut it anymore. This is true for several reasons. Whenever you rent a movie from the video store, you have to waste time driving to the store.

In many stores you can also spend a significant amount of time searching for the film you want and waiting in line. A store selection is usually composed of several thousand films. Most of the films will be absent from most stores.

Also, a store keeps a limited number of copies of each film. The film you've waited all day to see could very well be rented at the moment. The cost of a subscription varies, but generally it will be at least a dollar per film.

The cost of a subscription varies, but usually it's going to be at least a dollar per movie. Online movie downloads are a different story altogether. You only need to spend a few minutes searching for a movie and setting up the download.

You can then leave your computer, and after a few hours the movie's going to be ready for watching. The internet has a selection of movies that's unbelievable. Literally, millions of movies are at your fingertips whenever you go online.

The movies are never already rented by someone else. Different payment models exist, but mostly you need to pay a small one-time fee and you can download as many movies as you like. And the subscription never expires.

Celebrities Know How To Have A One Night Stand

By DJ Harmon

When you talk about partying, you must talk about celebrities. When they party, they party hard! They are into the drugs, alcohol and a bunch of sex. All that on the brain at one time leads to some hot hooking up. Celebs know how to have a one night stand as well as anybody.

We don't always get to hear about it when celebrities hook up to get one night stands. At times, we do get privy to this information as it is leaked into the media. Those other times, the word comes out to us and they try to pretend that it's the beginning of a real relationship. Liars! Not many will fess up and admit to having a real one night stand, although we all know the real deal!

The only real celebrity that I can think of to really come clean about the subject of one night stands is Jessica Alba. It is quite surprising to hear, but she is actually human! Who would have thought that, right? Just because she's a star doesn't mean that she doesn't like to hook up and get busy! Jessica, unlike most women will admit that she wants to get one night stands. I like that!

Jessica told Comso magazine that "I just wanted to see what it was like to be with different people. I don't think a girl's a slut if she enjoys sex. I could have a one-night stand, and I'm the kind of girl who looks over in the morning and is like, 'Do you really have to be here?'. This sounds like the making of a winner in my eyes. Where do I sign the marriage certificate Jessica?

Most celebrities that really know how to have a one night stand will keep it from going public. The one that stands out in my mind of those that have is between Britney Spears and Fred Durst. It all went down back in 2003. Who knows if it really happened, but if you listen to Fred, it was quite hot and heavy!

Britney went as far as denying the fact that she even knew Fred. We all knew that was a lie, but it was entertaining to see the spectacle nonetheless. Fred said she grew a school-girl type of crush on him and invited him back to her place where she seduced and laid him down. I wouldn't think Fred as the type to know how to have a one night stand, but he proved me wrong here!

There are plenty of guys that Britney has let into her bedroom since ole Fred had his time with her...allegedly. I guess it's just a matter of luck for a guy to get on her list. In addition to JR Rotem, Criss Angel and Adnan Ghalib, Britney even had a one nighter with some college guy named Matt Encinias.

Britney certainly isn't the only star hooking up throughout Hollywood. The men are doing it too! I doubt any do it on a grander scale that the playboy of the moment Brody Jenner. Brody hooks up with hot chicks all the time because he knows how to have a one night stand with the best of them. That's what he does! At least, that's all I know him for.

The only time we ever hear about ole Brody, his name is attached to the hot chick that he's dating at the moment. The list never ends. At the time of my writing, he's currently hooking up with Playmate of the Year Jayde Nicole. Enough said!

Crane Watching in Colorado

By Ian Kleine

Most of the states around the country had been witness to migratory patterns of various birds, insects and even some reptiles. In Colorado, the state witnesses the migration of the sand hill cranes near the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge. It's the annual event of the crane's flight from colder areas to warmer states.

The cranes had been long-time visitors through the state in time immemorial. The folks in the community had long know about their feathered visitors but it had only been in the last century that the cranes were given the needed attention and protection they needed. The cranes are becoming a treasure of Colorado.

Crane watchers aren't disappointed by the celebration the state had established for these birds. They have the Monte Vista Crane Festival for that. The epitome of the festival is the celebration of the 20,000 cranes and a few thousand lesser cranes that due a dramatic show of wings and dances. Other birds and raptors join in on the festival, but the cranes remain to be the center of attention and of the attraction.

There are various workshops around the area. Some shows by various wildlife experts, biologists, naturalists and teachers. There are special tours around the area such as sunset trips, refuge tours and some fun activities like bird identifying and contests. Most of them are educational in nature so it's also a good idea to bring the kids (or any nature-loving relative) for this once a year event.

There are places to visit as well, if you're bored of cranes. A craft fair nearby, has crane-themed things (if you want a souvenir). Dinner and entertainment, some local bed and breakfast, and concession stands are also available for refreshments.

Visit Colorado and enjoy the scenery and sights during this special festival.

Protecting Your Fruit Trees from Frost

By Guthrey Roberts

Hedges are extremely useful to the fruit grower for three reasons: (1) they give protection against high winds, (2) they keep out marauding boys, and (3) they should be strong enough to prevent the inroads of grazing animals.

The great thing, therefore, is to take in a general view of the country round about and to avoid the lower levels and shallow valleys. On the other hand, a valley near the sea or a wide river seldom is troubled by a spring freeze.

It is very difficult to know how one can advise a fruit grower to prevent damage by frost. On a small scale orie can help by covering over individual bushes with sacking or sheets of newspaper when it is feared that there will be a serious frost that night. One can forecast a frost in the spring when the blossoms are likely to be ruined by using a wet and dry bulb thermometer.

In order to prevent damage by rabbits and hares, it is necessary in most districts to protect the trees with wire netting. One of the ways of doing this is to use a wire guard for each tree. One-inch mesh wire netting is bought for this purpose, 3 feet wide.

A countryman will always tell you that you may expect a night frost if you look up at the sky in the evening and can see the stars clearly and brightly. There will be no clouds about and the air will be absolutely still. It is on such a night that a frost may be expected. Some people have made arrangements, on nights like this, to cover up the tops of their soft fruit cages with sacking and this has the effect of keeping the warm air from rising.

If there is a thick hedge at the bottom of a sloping orchard, then this may act as a barrier and not allow the freezing air to flow out to lower levels. On one occasion at Petersfield, caused the orchard-owner to cut down part of a thick hedge to form an opening 8 feet wide, and this proved sufficient to let out the collecting freezing air, and for the first time for many years the orchard cropped successfully because the blossoms were not ruined by frost.

Downloading Films For Dummys

By agematsu atthis

Downloading free movies is an easy thing to do. You can easily use some free comuter program that links you to a peer to peer file sharing network, as well as selecting the films on the network that you desire. So how does it work?

Where do these films materialize from? Essentially, they are stored on someone elses storage drive, and it is not perplexing to do. With a p2p comuter program package, the comuter program you use navigates the hard disk of other members of the network.

Many of the variant organizations that offer the software are attached to the same network. Albeit the comuter program is basically free of fees. You generally pay a 1-time life subscription that pays for a boosted version of the comuter program (essential for big files like movies), the other software you get such as Dvd flaming comuter programs and Dvd performers, for support. Once you have paid this, you will be given a number of search boxes in which you can search for a movie title, along with actor name, a movie genre, etc.

The software will check out the hard disks of others that are attached to the network and grant a list of those movies that are obtainable. You simply click on what you want and download it. The download speed depends on the bandwidth used both by you and the movie file provider, the dimension of the file along with the software version you are using.

Once the download is foolproof, it will be spared to a location on your hard disk that you have appointed. You can play it. It's as simple as that. As to what films are available, you name it as well as you download it.

This is where the legal along with ethical questions now enter the image. If somebody has bought a lawful film download, that does not permit them either to sell it or to give it away free. The same is real of Television carbon copying.

If you record a film to your storage drive from the Tv, you can watch it yourself, but you cannot vend it as well as cannot legally allow others access to it. In that respect, the person permitting you to make the download is splitting the law by giving you the file. Nevertheless, it is additionally unlawful for you to obtain it for free, or is it?

If you acquire a Cd containing a pirated blockbuster movie for free, are you guilty of a offense or is it the person giving it to you? Or is it both of you? It's a moot point worth considering. The recent actions by the film organizations in prosecuting kids for downloading films could indicate that it is illegal to obtain free movies from other personalities unless these films are in the public realm.

I have earlier written an editorial on films in the civic domain entitled The Legal Use of P2P Film Downloads. You may even find it on this index if you look for it. It grants more disputes on this point, along with also a list some of the more superior civic domain movies that you could download free utilizing a P2P comuter program. Nonetheless, assuming that it is illegal, then why don't the film corporations provide an option network that would allow persons to download films legally instead of complaining in reference to the unlawful use of P2P software.

I make it a point to state the legal facets of peer to peer file sharing networks for your pondering. It is unlawful to download free films, but the fact is that millions do it every day, and nearly no one is snared as well as prosecuted.

Staking Fruit Trees

By Luke Matthew

Stout chestnut stakes should be bought 5 feet long and approximately 3 inches in diameter. These must be driven into the ground to the depth of 2 feet so that they are really firm.

To make it easy to cultivate mechanically or to mow between the trees, it is best for the stakes to stand erect 2 inches away from each tree, and preferably on the south-west side, this being the direction of the prevailing wind in most counties.

On the other hand, when trees are grown on L'Arcure system wires have to be provided, as for cordons. Support must be given also to trees trained as espaliers or fans.

Sometimes branches of fruit trees, and this is particularly the case with plums and gages, bear such a heavy crop that they break off unless they are supported. This propping-up of individual branches is termed by the fruit grower 'staving'. The work may be done in three ways.

Thus the roots may be quite happy down below and the branches equally happy up above, but at the collar-as it is called-of the tree there is death because of a 2-inch depth of water in the cone which collects there and remains there during the whole of the winter -being fed from time to time by snow or rain. This collar of water keeps out the air, and thus the wood dies.

These plastic ties have little tubular 'cushions' which act as a buffer between the tree and the stake itself. They have, of course, to be examined from time to time, as occasionally they may break after a severe storm. With half-standard and standard trees it is advisable to use two stakes with a cross-bar fixed about a foot below the head of the tree.

How to Plan Your Fruit Tree Garden

By John Rivers

I have two gardens. Garden No. 1 is 68 feet long by 48 feet wide. It contains two blackberries, four redcurrants, four gooseberries grown as bushes and six grown as triple cordons. There are two loganberries, three half-standard plums, one damson, three rows of apple cordons and two rows of pear cordons.

The cordons are trained at an angle of 45 degrees and are supported on a system of posts and wires. Some blackcurrant bushes are planted 'near the plums because these two fruits like similar manuring, i.e. high nitrogen. Further, of course,. they act as an intercrop.

One must never despise the 1-acre plot, for it is from such a comparatively small area that my friend Mr. P. G. Saunders, of Sander- stead, was able to show over fifty varieties of apples and pears, in the Royal Horticultural Society's Hall in 1949, and to be awarded the Hogg Silver Gilt Medal.

The third garden is probably the easiest one to keep up. There are no plums at all and the apples are planted as bush trees 8 feet square. The pears are grown as cordons along the bottom fence, and the raspberries along the side fence as in Garden 2.

I planted my orchard on a hillside some 350 feet high, in the midst of a fairly open plain, with the result that the trees never suffered from air frosts. Because they were on a hill, they were certainly checked by gales and sometimes the very cold winds did not encourage the visits of pollinating insects. There was always, however, the perfect draining of freezing air down to lower levels and eventually over the road to the neighbouring fields which were at a lower level still.

One should aim, therefore, never to plant fruit trees in a saucer-like depression, especially one which is surrounded by higher land and therefore which is bound to fill up with freezing air some time in the spring.

Prepared Bulbs for Christmas Flowering

By Daniel Timothy

As all bulbs must go through a cold winter season before they will flower, these prepared or pre-cooled bulbs have been given this treatment artificially by the bulb growers or merchants before you receive them, thus enabling them to flower particularly early. All bulbs will not react well to this artificial treatment, so types and varieties are limited, as, indeed, are quantities, so if you wish to buy some prepared bulbs you must get your order in early.

However, if the bulb already contains the flower, it should be obvious that it is in what used to be called a delicate condition and it should be treated gently. A bruise or a bump can damage the interior of the bulb and result in a malformed flower. Handle them carefully and as soon as the bulbs you have ordered arrive, open the bags to let them breathe. Plant as soon as you can, for they will not be sent to you before planting time.

One good plan, and an alternative to plunging them, is to wrap the planted bowls in black plastic sheeting which keeps out the light and has the added advantage that it also keeps the bowl clean. Once the bowls have been put away in a cool place do not just forget them, for the bulb fiber must be kept moist at all times and further watering may be necessary. Examine the bowls from time to time to ensure that they are not dry and to watch their progress.

Immediately the bulbs are received the packages should be opened to allow the bulbs to breathe. Bowls and bulb fibre should be ready for them. First spread a few nuggets of charcoal on the floor of the bowls and then fill them to within half an inch or so of the rim with your fibre.

But in addition there are other bulbs which flower early naturally, without this special precooling treatment. Then there are the whole range of spring flowering bulbs and other bulbs, corms and tubers (all of which I intend to lump together) which are sometimes single flowering and sometimes perennial indoors.

As different techniques are demanded in their treatment, and as bulb flowers are so important and so delightful, I intend to divide them into their various sections and deal with each separately.

The Operation of Planting Fruit Trees

By Ralph Littles

A light sandy soil, for instance, is not ideal for blackcurrants nor is a very heavy clay to strawberries. To plant in badly drained soil that gets sodden each winter is to court disaster, and thus good drainage most always be borne in mind. One should never plant in soil that is riddled with perennial weeds, like creeping buttercup, dock, thistle or ground elder. It is necessary to wait a year before trying to establish an orchard or soft fruit crop in this case. Thus an opportunity is given for the use of dry sodium chlorate all over the leaves of the weeds, to kill them permanently, or to use instead one of the new strong hormone weedkillers.

This will annoy him because he will start to dig up his trees as soon as the leaves have fallen an.d he will have to go on getting them up and despatching them until early April. He cannot possibly get up all his orders in one week.

If, however, you put in your order early, say some time in th.e summer, and you insist on a November delivery, you will probably get what you ask for, especially if you promise to pay him promptly. It will pay you to go and collect the trees yourself in the back of a car or lorry. First of all, you will be sure to receive them without any of the fruit spurs being broken off; and, secondly, you will get them at the time when you need them.

The 'compost fruit grower' will never make the mistake of planting too deeply. He plans to allow the roots of his trees and bushes to explore the top 6 inches of soil perfectly-as well as the lower reaches. Shallow planting is especially important in the case of the heavy clays, and there are growers in parts of Sussex who have found it advisable to spread out the roots of apple and pear trees on the surface of the ground, and then to cover them with further surface soil from round about. This has given far better results than digging holes, even though they be only 9 inches deep-in the heavy clay.

These root 'tiers' should be kept in their normal stratification, and so when the lower lots of roots have been covered and firmed the next lot of soil should be put in position and the stem of the tree moved ever so slightly up and down so as to enable the good earth to trickle in between the roots.

Some people have told me that they couldn't possibly heel in the trees when they arrived, because the land was too frozen. Such people didn't know the 'trick of covering a small plot of soil with straw a foot deep or so, so that however strong the frost the particular area of land never gets frozen. Thus the roots can be protected once they are buried and they can remain there quite happily until planting time comes. It is usual, incidentally, to do the heeling in at an angle of about 45 degrees.

How To Graft Apple Tree

By Carolyn Sackett

At the actual time of grafting the bud should be cut from the young wood in such a way that it produces a semicircular shield, inch in length.

These must be melted together and stirred into one another, and the wax should then be used while warm. You can use ordinary candle-grease with success. The wax is needed to cover all the cut surfaces and to seal up the union of the stock and scion.

The stock is purposely left at this length so that, when the bud does grow, the growth can be tied loosely with raffia to this length of wood. This prevents the young growth from being blown out by the wind. The following August, this 6-inch length of stock above the bud is cut away a inch above the point where the bud was inserted.

Collect the scions during the months of November and December, while pruning, and bury them as pruned off the trees 2 inches deep in the soil. The idea is to prevent the young wood from drying up. By cutting it off in the winter it remains dormant and so ready for use in the spring. Healthy one-year-old wood must always be chosen for grafting.

With the sharp blade of a knife, make a T-shaped cut in the stock on the shady side, at about 2 inches above ground level. Make the downstroke of the 'T' 1 inch long and the cross stroke I- inch long. With the bone wedge-shaped handle of the knife, raise the bark slightly.

It is ready that November to be planted out in the spot where it is to grow. In cases where the maidens are only 2 feet high, owing to dry weather, sandy soil and weak stocks, it is necessary to leave the trees in the nursery for another twelve months.

Biofuels in Indiana

By Ian Kleine

Biofuel is deemed the 'fuel of the future'.

Basically, any fuel added with organic components that do not belong to the category of 'long dead, prehistoric biological material.' There are many types of biofuels, though most of them are still deemed too expensive and inefficient. The two most current profitable and feasible are the generic 'biofuels' and 'agrofuels'.

Biofuel is usually derived from 'biomass' a big heap of material from recently living (and now dead) organisms, usually plant life after harvesting. Animal parts (like manure, slaughterhouse parts) can also be used and added to the biomass gunk. It usually consists of animal waste, construction materials, leaves and tree refuse, and crop stalks (usually wheat, oats, and rice stalks).

Agrofuels are basically specialized plants whose produce has a good composition that could be assimilated into a pseudo-fuel source. Usually, these plants have to have a very high sugar content (like sugar cane, beet, and sorghum) or starch (sweet potatoes and corn do fine) and have yeast extract the alcohol. The other one is to have plants that create high amounts of oil that can be used to support the main fuel (like palm, soy, jatropha which is fast becoming the crop of choice for oils among biofuels.) Sooner or later, these plants may be raised and cultured just for this purpose.

We have vegetable oil, used in its distilled form (void of water and particulates) that is used by older diesel engines, as they are most compatible with the engine. Biodiesel which is produced from oil and is chemically similar to diesel. The oils are used to replace a part of the fuel. Bioalcohols are of the same value, except instead of oil, they use alcohols.

Indiana is the proponent of most of the biofuels in the country. With this move, hopefully, the state will become the leader in the green revolution.

Films To See From 2008 By Dita: Free Full Downloads

By Sarah Parker

I have made a small selection of movie hits for 2000. I have chosen a few of the films I enjoyed watching this year. I hope you find a couple of movies that you will enjoy.

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS: I guess it was a typical night out in Vegas. Joy and Jack, who had just met, wake up and soon realize that they had married each other the night before. When they win a $3 million jackpot, the question is who should get the money, so they ask a judge for a decision. The strange ruling is that they must stay together for six months, and see if they can settle their differences. With lots of money at stake, they each try to get the other to give up, as both desire to have the cash for themselves.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS: Full time stoner Dale Denton has just seen a crooked police man, and a powerful drug dealer, commit a killing. He was spotted, and they know he has seen the killing. Realizing this, he drops his joint of pineapple express, and gets away fast. The marijuana is particular enough, that the bad guys can. The chase is on, Dale and his pot dealer friend Saul are now running for their lives.

HAMLET 2: Failed actor Mr. Marshz has found himself teaching the high school theater classes to uninterested students. The school loses a building due to destruction, so the powers to be feel the useless theater coarses must be eliminated. With a challenge now in front of him, he tries to keep the school from dropping his classes by producing Hamlet 2, an original interpretation of the Shakespeare classic, which he put to paper himself.

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH: On a quest to find his lost brother, professor Trevor Anderson explores caves in Iceland, and that leads him to the center of the earth. This is a newer edition of the original 1959 movie, which was about the science fiction book by celbrated writer Jules Verne. Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutchinson, Anita Briem, and Seth Myers star in this adventure film.

TROPIC THUNDER: Starting with an incredible cast we soon see this movie is a claasic parody of popular war films. To get a realistic performance from his crew to see the movie be a success, the seemingly bold director into the middle of nowhere, and leaves them there by themselves. The goal is to shock them so they will produce a work of genius, that will be recorded on hidden cameras. Unbelievabley, as the director blows up on an old French land mine, the crew is left on its own, and they think there acting, when things start to get very real. Great cast with incredible make up for Robert Downey Jr.and Tom Cruise.

STEP BROTHERS: Two forty year old child adults, who each live with their single parents, are going to share a room because their mom and dad get married, you can only imagine the mess. With Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as the key players, and you have the ingredients for a racous comedy. This film is a sure fire bet for comedy lovers.

Jumper: While almost drowning, David Rice (Hayden Christensen) learns an amazing thing. He can actually teleport himself to anywhere he desires to be, anytime he wants. He then comes to learn that he is not alone in having this ability. Unfortunately, after a few years of fun, he is exposed to hunters that are trying to rid the world of jumpers. Now he is in a fight for survival, as the hunters try to track him down.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK: This feature film tells a story about Dr. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton), who has been transformed into the Hulk. This feature film is about the comic legend, the Hulk. Key cast members are Edward Norton, Tim Roth and Liv Tyler. This film is directed by Louis Leterrier. The film style is sci-fi/action-thriller.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: Rent is over due and Zack and Miri, roomates and good friends, need to come up with some cash soon. The answer? Easy, make a porno. As one can expect this sets the stage for lots of laughs.

These days just about everyone buys or rents films, so they can see them in the comfort of their living rooms. A more recent method for getting films is by using down loading technologies off websites. Online providers have websites that offer downloading of almost any film you can think of.

Hot Springs in Idaho

By Ian Kleinee

Hot springs can be considered as one of the greater pleasures in life. Dipping in warm, tepid water while observing the lilting steam wafting up, caressing your body. Probably drink tea and eat some sweets while you're at it.

Hot springs are technically underground springs that come into contact with geothermal hot rocks. The water is heated and bursts out steaming and rich with minerals, silicates and other geological components. This was where the rumors of therapy and medicinal value came from.

Thusly, hot spring are usually found around areas near volcanoes. When water is able to dig in until it reaches a geothermal gradient hot enough to cause it to rise back up; a hot spring results. The conduction of heat also causes surrounding water to be affected by the heat as well. There are differences however. When the water is heated too much that it becomes steam and shoots out of the ground, it is termed as a geyser. In a calm manner, it is termed as a fumarole and when when mixed with mud and clay; the resulting product is called a mud pot.

A warm spring is the mixture of hot and cold (unheated) springs and may occur outside the area of responsibility of a volcanic vein. Hot spring lakes may also happen if an underground lake has access to a vein. This lake can feed several springs in its area.

Lava Hot Springs is a city in Idaho that boasts a good spring flow rate, which is the amount of hot water spewed out of the underground fountain. The mineral rich water, full of calcium, lithium and several salts is a good tourist attraction and has a good audience with the people around the state.

Just be sure that you have no external wounds when bathing in one, to make sure that you don't get any form of infection. Hot, mineral water is quite painful even to shallow cuts or abrasions.

Your guide to bow hunting

By Rihana Suzanne

A hunter will usually need one of these three things to kill his prey. These three things are rifles, shotguns or the arrow and bow combination. The arrow and the bow combination commonly known as bow hunting is very popular with hunting enthusiasts for its uniqueness.

Bow hunting is very challenging as compared to other forms of shooting like rifles and the shotguns. You will need enough time to learn the skills. As far as specifications go there are two things that you will need in the bows and the arrows and that are the toughness and the accuracy.

To learn the skills the most basic thing that you need to learn is the various positions and the aim that you ca take. You will need to keep trying various angles and positions and then settle for one which you are comfortable with. This is the most basic practice that you will need before you venture into actual shooting.

Bow weight is one thing that you need to be careful about. Too much weight and you will be out of position to adjust properly. Make sure that you use stabilizers for hunting.

Then you will also the need some sort of straps so that the bow does not recoil and hit you when the arrow is released. For better aim and targeting make sure that you have the arrow rest while taking the shot.

There are two types of arrows and these are made up of either aluminum or the carbon. Carbon ones are lighter will help in making the longer distances as opposed to aluminum ones which are heavier. The aluminum ones are much better for accuracy as opposed to the carbon ones.

Practice makes the man perfect so practice hard before you venture into the world of bow hunting as well as make sure that you have the required accessories for the hunting.

Determine A Boat's Value In Ten Steps

By John Howard

It is possible to determine the value of a boat by yourself before buying or selling. Besides having a general idea of the market value for the kind ob vessel, it is fundamental to know what to look for. This ten point checklist tells you about the most important factors that may affect the end price of that boat or yacht:

1) Start with the boat hull and understructure. Are there any scrapes, cracks, signs of badly executed repairs, or fading? All these will negatively impact the boat value. Please note that the hull is best examined with the boat out of the water.

2) Next, look at hatches and fittings on the superstructure. Ideally, everything should fit well, be watertight, in good condition and not warped by dampness. Any exceptions to this warrant a discount on the total price.

3) Now it's the time to check the engine block, including transmissions and steering. Look at the state of maintenance of all the electrical and liquid cables, and of the transmission. The latter should be smooth, and easily switch from forward to neutral to back. The color of the engine oil is a potential indicator of engine problems.

4) Check the rest of the electrical equipment, and all the switches. Turn everything on and off, and verify that it works. Do this both for the external navigation lights and switches, and for the internal ones of the living compartment, including for the kitchen and toilets.

5) Have a look at all the bilges, under the flooring. Oil signs are a bad sign, you don't want any oil leaks. Watermarks from flooding are sign of a lesser problem. You will want to enquire with the current owner when the flooding happened and why.

6) Now revisit all the external surfaces, from the deck to the inner furnishings, and also all the upholstery. Are there any problems that may result in a lower value of the boat? What is the status of repair of all these items?

7) If there are any wooden parts on the boat, examine them thoroughly as repairs and replacements of these can be quite expensive. Is anything warped by dampness, faded or chipped? Have there been some previous restorations that were badly executed?

8) If the boat you are evaluating is a sailing yacht, check the sails and rigging. Everything should be in good condition, including the spares. Unfold and unfurl everything. If any repairs have been made on the sails, check their quality.

9) What accessories will be part of the deal? Make sure to make an inventory of all the extras, and evaluate them to their fair used material price. This could make a serious difference to end value, especially if a lot of electronics are part of the deal.

10) Don't neglect to look at the safety equipment. Not only do you want to ensure that it's present and in good order, but its state of maintenance will shed light on the care that the previous owner put into the boat, which is an important consideration for boat evaluation.

Propagating Cranberry Tree

By Jonathan David

These grow well on their own roots, and therefore they are usually propagated by hardwood cuttings inserted into the soil the moment the leaves have fallen early in November, as advised for redcurrants. Some people have raised mulberries by sowing seed. The trees that are produced in this way usually take some twelve years before they come into cropping.

If the branch of a mulberry can be pegged down into the ground, it will soon root, and thus in some cases propagation has been done by layering.

It is safer to propagate vegetation in this way, for plants raised from seeds are not necessarily true to type. Some plants produce offshoots at their base which can be severed from the parent plants in the autumn for planting out separately.

With varieties that produce extremely short lengths of well- ripened wood, it is possible to propagate by taking pieces of wood about an inch long containing one eye and bury these an inch deep in sharp silver sand. This can either be done in pots in the greenhouse or in frames under Dutch lights.

The French and Swiss propagate vines by means of grafting on to certain stocks, but this seems to be entirely because of the attacks of the Phylloxera aphis.

Planting is not just the physical operation of making a hole and putting the roots of the tree therein. There is far more to it than that. One must know, for instance, whether the soil is eminently suitable for the particular type of fruit that one wishes to grow.

Tips For Advertising Your Vacation Rental Property

By Trevor Albers

If you have a vacation property, one way to make extra income is to rent it out as a vacation home. If you live near a beach, a famous tourist attraction, or anywhere else that is popular with vacationers, than you will probably be able to rent out your home without any problem, provided of course, that you take the time to advertise it correctly.

The first thing to do is to make sure that you are familiar with the short term rental laws for your state, city, and HOA, and that you sign and mail in any paperwork that may be required. You should purchase an insurance policy for your vacation rental home and create a rental agreement that includes basic information such as the amount of monthly rent, the duration of the tenancy, any utilities and services included in the price of the rent, the amount of security deposit and other clauses.

Your ad should include basic information while at the same time highlight the best features of your rental property. Include a description of the property, i.e. number of rooms, bathrooms, square footage, etc, and a description of the location. Make sure to include the rental price, and specify whether or not pets are included, whether a security deposit is required, etc. Dont forget to mention the best features, especially if it is beach adjacent, close to points of interest, etc.

One way to increase the number of people who find your ad via the search engines is to add keywords at the bottom. These should be focused on the specifics of what you are offering, i.e. vacation rental (your area) and should be separated by commas. You should plan on posting your ad on several different sites to increase exposure and to help you reach different demographics. Certain sites may offer features and options that others dont.

Advertising your vacation rental property is a process of trial and error. In other words, dont get discouraged if you arent flooded with responses at first. If the first ad that you post isnt getting the kind of traffic that you want, consider rewriting the copy, including different photos and, also, advertising on another online listing site. Eventually, and probably very soon if your rental property is located near or in a popular vacation destination, you will find your perfect renter.

How to Protect Your Fruit Trees from Buds and Birds

By Robert Young

Strong chestnut posts, 3 inches in diameter, should be used 12 feet apart. At the corner of the field stronger posts are necessary, 6 inches across, with straining posts at an angle of 45 degrees, driven into the ground and nailed on the corner posts.

Every twelfth post along the fence should be 6 inches in diameter, so as to give extra strength and should be provided with two straining posts, 3 inches in diameter, driven in at an angle of 45 degrees and nailed on to the thick post with two 3-inch nails. To prevent these straining posts from moving, cut out a shallow ledge in the main post.

It helps if, in addition to having the straining wire 4 feet from the ground to which the top of the wire netting is wired, a strip of barbed wire is nailed on to the posts 1 foot higher. This not only gives extra strength but helps to keep out animals and young people.

The chestnut poles will be dipped in Green Cuprinol for at least forty-eight hours to the depth of 2 feet, and this will ensure that they do not rot away quickly. When bought, the posts should be 6 feet long so that they can be driven into the ground 1 foot deep.

A wire fence must stand about 4 feet above soil level but it should be purchased 5 feet high, so that the lower 12 inches of netting can be buried in the soil, in such a way that it slopes outwards and thus prevents the burrowing-in of rabbits.

One inch wire netting of a heavy gauge should be bought and this should be attached to the posts provided, as well as to the stout galvanized wire which must run tightly from post to post at the 4 feet height.

Dendrochilums

By James Grunwald

There are over 200 species of eulophia are distributed throughout the African continent. These are terrestrial orchids, which produce large pseudo bulbs from a strong rhizome, with wide, spreading leaves.

The flower spikes come from the base of the newly completed pseudo bulb. The genus is extremely varied, and plants of differing sizes are found, although not many are in general cultivation. In their natural state, these orchids may exist in wet marshland or on dry and arid hillsides. Their different cultural requirements may be one reason for their lack of popularity in cultivation. Nevertheless, these are excellent plants to grow and not all are space-consuming giants.

Do not be tempted to divide these orchids until absolutely necessary. The larger the plant, the better they look. The common name for these delightful, modestly sized orchids is silver chain orchids, or in some instances golden chain orchids. This refers to the slender flower spike, which is densely packed with small, white or yellow flowers, arranged in two distinct rows along most of its length. Temperature for the orchid is cool-growing.

Grow in pots or hanging baskets of fine bark compost (growing medium). Provide shady conditions when ill growth, but full light during the winter. Water all year, but give much less during the winter while the plants are resting. Feed only in summer, at every other watering. Height is 23cm (9 in).

Jumellia orchid comes mainly from Madagascar, these monopodial, clump-forming, evergreen epiphytic plants resemble angraecums in their growth, which is robust, with long, fleshy leaves. Of the 40 or so species, only a very few are grown, none of which is plentiful in cultivation, and the genus has not produced any hybrids except for a very few intergenerics with related genera such as angraecum and aeranthes (synonym is angranthellea). The flowers, which ate disappointingly small for the size of the plant, are produced on slender flower spikes and are typically solely white, with sepals, petals and a lip of equal proportions. This structure as well as the presence of a long spur indicates pollination by night-flying moths, which means that the flower has no need of other coloration or indeed fragrance. Temperature is warm-growing. Grow in 15cm (6 in) pots or baskets containing a coarse, chunky compost (growing medium) to accommodate the long roots, which often meander at will. Provide shade and high humidity, as for phalaenopsis. Water and feed throughout the year, giving less in winter. Height is 45cm (18in).

Jumellia sagittata is a robust-growing species from Madagascar, this produces Vanda-like growth. The flowers, 4cm wide, are carried singly on spindly spikes that are shorter than the height of the plant. A profusion of blooms crowds around the base in winter.

Increasing Humidity for Houseplants

By Darius Herbert

There is still another means of increasing humidity under these circumstances, and this time a rather more natural and less artificial means. Given high temperatures and swift ventilation, plants will transpire moisture from their foliage at a rapid rate.

If this material is kept constantly moist, but not soaking wet, this moisture will be absorbed by the plant pot as it is required. This moist material will also give off a surprising amount of humidity, normally wafting it upwards through the leaves of the plant above.

But there remains the problem of humidity, sometimes difficult to obtain under these circumstances of highly ventilated heat. Obviously personal comfort must come before the special requirements of plants, so we cannot adopt greenhouse practices such as wetting the floors and installing automatic spraying devices that will deposit a fine film of moisture in the air to settle on and permeate the foliage of the plants.

Normally in most commercial greenhouses plants are grown on benches or shelving which is covered with a layer of shingle, sand, peat or ashes. This is kept moist and the plants benefit. It is possible to obtain simple automatic trickle irrigation equipment, similar to that used in so many commercial greenhouses, which will take care of plants in this fashion when they must be left for long periods, even the entire day.

But respiration rates are bound to be high, and unless spraying can be resorted to several times during a hot clay these rates will outstrip the speed with which plants can absorb moisture at their roots.

Most of us wish, of course, to have our home extensions or garden rooms looking more domesticated than a greenhouse, so if we resort to aids such as this we must hide or disguise the mechanism as much as we can, fortunately not a difficult task.

Where to Grow Fruit Trees

By Daniel Cumming

Paradoxically enough, too much water can do harm to roots, because they must breathe, and therefore it's sometimes necessary to ensure good drainage so as to get the excess water away in the winter. Agricultural drains not only remove excess moisture, but their function is also to ensure that all the air in the soil is not driven out by water-logging conditions.

Care must be taken however not to bury the union of the 'stock and scion'. But once again, it is the surface dressings of compost-grass mowings-or old well-rotted dung, which will provide the mulch needed and so ensure that the tree from the start grows as it should. Generally speaking, it is a mistake to dig compost or dung into the soil before planting trees, for this not only makes it difficult to get the roots properly firmed, but it also puts the organic matter in the place where it isn't really needed at that time.

It is tremendously important to know as much as possible about the soil and how it works, for unless we know this we cannot be sure what we require of it. It's possible for even the veriest beginner to understand something about the branches of a bush or tree, because they live in the same environment as the gardener. The roots, however, which may form at least three-quarters of that tree, are below soil level, and in an 'environment' which the gardener cannot appreciate.

Twice in the year, i.e. in January and again in August, a fish manure with a 6 per cent potash content is applied along the rows over the grass mowings, at 4 oz. to the yard run.

It is possible therefore, in a private garden, to take extra trouble and to provide the right conditions for the roots of the trees-at any rate in its early stages. I have known it necessary in the case of a very heavy clay soil to ask the gardener to plant the tree on the surface of the ground and then to mound some soil around the roots. Such surface planting gives the tree a good start. If it were planted in a hole this would quickly fill up with water in the winter, and the roots would be killed.

When, therefore, I want a good surface tilth I rely on the help of the bacteria who, by working on and in the humus, help to produce the right type of crumb structure. When this happens the soil remains sufficiently open for the air and water to pass down as needed.

Pests and diseases of Houseplants

By John Wellington

Red spicier mite is another pest which can be prevented by good cultivation, for it is most likely to appear when conditions in the home are warm and dry and there is a harmful lack of humidity. Attack from red spider is most unlikely if you watch your hygrometer carefully and never let the relative humidity fall below a figure of about 55.

Unfortunately red spider is not so easy to sec as aphids. Be suspicious if leaves begin to yellow and fall. If this mottled appearance is seen, feel the affected leaf between your fingers. If it feels slightly rough to the touch turn the leaf over and look at the underside. It is possible that you may be able to see the tiny mite (it is not a. spider despite its name) without a glass, but it is very small and multiplies rapidly again. To make quite sure, dust a little powder or some cigarette ash on the underside of the leaf and if this is held you will he able to see the little web-like strands.

Any of the proprietary insecticides used against aphids in the garden will quickly clear them from the plants in your home, but as some of these are highly poisonous it is unwise to spray the plants while still in position in the room. Far better to remove them to the terrace or to a shed and spray them there. Some sprays are safe enough to use indoors but these do not include the systemic insecticides which should always be applied in the open, taking care even there that none of the spray blows on to the bare skin, in which case it should be washed away immediately with soap and warm water.

A weakly plant can quickly become the host in summer to greenfly which has flown in through the window or has been brought into the house on a bunch of garden flowers. Regular inspection of the plants will reveal their presence and they can then be cleared at once before they either do any harm or before they multiply and spread to other plants. The prevalent sin of overwatering can lead to fungal attack, and if watering is done carefully and wisely it is most unlikely that our plants will suffer in this way.

If a small plant is attacked it is a good thing to dip it entirely in a bucket of white oil preparation. This can be bought from most chemists and garden stores and is quite easily mixed with water in a bucket.

Some systemics can be bought in handy aerosol packs which give a very fine spray. Make sure that every part of the plant receives some of the chemical, the undersides of leaves, leaf joints and every other little nook and cranny. Aerosol sprays are ready mixed. If you mix your own and use a garden spray always follow the directions exactly. Never add a little more of the chemical for luck as this can harm your plant.

Women's Sandals Taking The World By Storm

By Kim Hodges

Sandals are popular with women throughout the year regardless of season. With the many pros they offer as footwear, they can be worn in many different situations. These two reasons have combined to give ladies a huge reason to fall in love with them.

They were first made as casual footwear, but sandals now boast a wide array of different designs. This has led to something for everyone. The requisite casual sandals are still a mainstay of the product line, but designs for high end fashion and sex appeal have also been created.

More so than high heels, sandals are the choice of a growing number of women due to their versatile applications. A woman can wear a pair of pretty sandals with all kinds of outfit and elevate their looks. They reduce the time required to find the right combination when dressing up for any occasion.

You no longer have the common boring look when it comes to sandals. Hybrid designs have been sprouting up all over the place since designers decided to take the unconventional route and give them a more upscale look. They now come with heels and platforms, rather than the normal flat base that one would associate with sandals.

Sandals from Steve Madden, Prada, Ellise and Jimmy Choo often ride high on the list of favorites. You can easily purchase them from high end boutiques or shoe retailers. The more expensive brands like Jimmy Choo are not as easy to find, but are exquisitely designed.

You might wonder when and where you can wear sandals for a better looking appearance. Amazingly, they can be put on in just about any situation. This includes going to the neighborhood shopping malls to the daily trip to the office.

More women have also taken to wearing beautiful and sexy sandals to big events such as grand dinners and gala openings. They are no longer considered casual wear. There are even designs that have been released that spot jewelry decorations including diamonds.

It can be seen that sandals are now synonymous with women's high heels in terms of usage. A huge reason for that is due to their ability to withstand the test of time. That could eventually see them become the footwear of choice for women all over the world in the future.

Scrumptious Scrapples

By Ian Kleine

What is a scrapple, you say? Scrapples are one of the food faves around the state of Delaware. They're made from pigs, well for the exception that it doesn't contain almost any pork since scrapples consist of almost all body parts of the pig.

It may sound highly-unappealing but the food has become one of the more popular treats around the region. Most legends would say that scrapple started in Pennsylvania, while others would argue that it came with the settlers from Germany (the region of Lower Rhine) who decided to finally live in Philadelphia.

To make scrapple, the things you'll need are pork scraps (anything that comes from the pig, but be considerate and leave the icky-stuff out), water for boiling, cornmeal and buckwheat flour for consistency and salt and pepper to taste. The ingredients would remind you of a meaty polenta, and it should. You'll notice just in a bit.

Boil the pork into the water or pork broth. Once it reaches near boiling, slowly add both cornmeal and buckwheat flour in. Stir well. Cover and let simmer for 15 minutes at low heat. Cool in any pan and refrigerate. When the mixture has set/hardened, cut into serving portions and fry. Serve with ketchup, syrup or any condiment. Delaware has a festival for this, called the Apple Scrapple Festival.

It is usually held around the month of October. It's a fair of all scrapples and more, and everyone is encouraged to attend. It's a whole weekend of food, fun and excitement. There's also a carnival, street dancing and a beauty contest.

There are lots of things to see in Delaware. And not just your typical scrapple. There are a lot of varieties, some delicious and some unheard of. Visit the festival when you have a chance!

Manuring Fruit Garden

By Peter Dickson

When it comes to manuring one cannot lay down hard and fast rules as regards fruit trees and bushes as a whole. Types which tend to bear on the young wood, like blackcurrants, generally need more nitrogen than a soft fruit like the redcurrant, which hears its fruit on short spurs produced on the older wood.

Good management, of course, will ensure the use of a sufficiently large spraying machine, to ensure that first of all the trees and bushes can be covered from top to toe without any difficulty, and that, secondly, all the trees one has to spray in the spring and summer months, can be covered in the course of a few days.

Unfortunately, some fruit growers are 'under engined' when it comes to spraying machinery, and so it may take them ten days or so to cover the orchards, which may well mean that the trees treated at the end of the period are given their insecticide or fungicide too late.

Young trees are naturally vigorous, whereas older trees that have started to crop heavily may so concentrate on the production of fruit buds that they do not produce enough young wood. Thus the owner will see the need of varying his manure program as the years go by.

The overall picture may be summarized thus: High nitrogen may be necessary for soft fruits like blackcurrants, for succulent fruits like plums, and even to a certain extent for the larger cooking apples. High potash, on the other hand, is advisable for the high quality, richly coloured dessert apple, as well as for the red currant and gooseberry.

When the dessert apple is overfed with nitrogen it tends not to be so crisp, so sugary, so highly coloured, or such a good keeper. It may only be that there will be seasonal requirements of extra nitrogen or potash. There can be no standardized hard and fast rule. The wet year of 1958 produced high nitrogen conditions, without adding doses of dried blood Or whatever organic nitrogenous fertilizer may have been used. A very dry sunny year, however, may easily bring about low nitrogen conditions, with the result that the trees will not grow much.

Propagating Houseplants by Division

By Garfield Dogwood

As might be expected, most plants suited to this method of propagation have comparatively soft and fleshy leaves. There are two types of leaf cuttings : those that make use of leaf and stem and those requiring the leaf alone. An example of the first is the dainty African violet and of the second, the gorgeous Begonia Rex.

Again make use of a standard rooting compost medium as described earlier, although plain moist sand and sometimes even water alone can frequently be used. For a leaf and stem cutting remove the mature leaf from the plant together with two inches or so of stem. Insert the stem end in the rooting medium almost to the base of the leaf and new roots will grow from the base of the stem in anything from one to two months. If using water alone, either choose a narrow-necked phial or bottle to enable the leaf to stand upright while the, stem is in the medium. One frequently used method is to cover the flower pot or other container with kitchen foil or plastic and punch small holes in this to allow the stern to go through into the medium safely.

In some cases it is helpful to use this process of propagation in reverse, as it were. Perhaps you buy a new plant of ivy and wish it to grow thick and bushy instead of tall and slender. If two or three cuttings from the tall plant are inserted in the soil at its base they will grow and add to the bushy effect.

Plants permitting a leaf cutting rather than a leaf and stem also frequently have a further advantage, allowing the leaf to be cut into many pieces, each producing a separate plant. Examples here are Begonia Rex and Sanscvieria.

Three or four inches below the tuft, that is below the lowest leaf, cut a strip of bark about half an inch wide from the circumference of the stem. Do this gently and with a sharp knife, removing the outer bark only. The stem will exude a sticky liquid, actually the rubber. This is poisonous, so do not allow your sticky fingers to come into contact with your mouth. Into this sticky liquid sprinkle a little hormone rooting powder and then cover the entire area for about an inch or two above and below the cut with moist sphagnum moss, tying it around the stem with string. Around the moss tie a piece of plastic sheeting, tying it tightly at top and bottom so that as little as possible of the moisture in the moss can evaporate. New roots will grow into the moss and after a month or two they will actually be visible through the plastic and their results will be seen in new growth from the top tuft.

Different in appearance but similar in practice is the familiar and popular grass-like chlorophyll, which from the center of its arching sprays sends out a long stern which after producing the insignificant but pretty little white flowers manufactures a tiny plant at the end, a miniature chlorophyll in fact. These again can be rooted in a pot and then the stem cut once they are growing away well.
